George Lavern McKay Young
Born on Dec 5, 1929 in Roslin Midlothian, Scotland
Passed on Nov 11, 2024 in Penticton, BC
George left Scotland as a teen to venture to Canada whilst in the Merchant Navy. He made his way to his family in Star City, Saskatchewan.
He moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba where he eventually started working underground with the HBMS company. He later transferred to Snowlake mine.
Moving to Penticton in 1964, he worked at the IGA in numerous positions.
He was an extremely talented musician playing piano, accordion and bagpipes. As well as a beautiful singing voice, George was known for his kindness, generosity and mild manner.
He was a member of the ELKS for over 77 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara, children Laurie (Ron), George, Scott (Michelle), granddaughter Brianne (Richard) and great grandchildren Henry George, and Evelyn.

So sorry to hear of his passing. I enjoyed the years we spent together in the Okanagan Caledonian Pipeband, and came to realize what a truly talented musician he was. Rest I peace dear friend.

Never knew the boys but was the one that persuaded Lauri to take her first step by teasing her to come for a spoon in our kitchen next door to B and G. They both will always be part of my memories from out first yrs in Snow Lake in early 60s. The song, Scottish Soldier and Cliff Richard’s and the Shadows will forever remind me of George,
